With Mary Bauermeister the Wilhelm-Hack-Museum presents an artist whose works can be found in every important museum of New York. This large-scale exhibition gives for the very first time an overview of Bauermeister’s work in Germany. In the 1960s she propagated totally new dealings with the medium picture.

In wood boxes she created a fascinating world of mirroring glass, loupes, lenses and prisms.

These boxes were completed by fine ink drawings.

The exhibition also shows works of artists who were as well experimenting with boxes as an art platform like Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Cornell, Joseph Beuys, Nam June Paik and Andy Warhol.
